It is common to feel lost and confused when there is a death in the family. At times, gathering your thoughts alone may take significant effort. Yet, by law, the death has to be registered within 24 hours of occurrence. The good thing is that the process of registering a death in Singapore is relatively straight forward.
3 Step Process
1
Obtain the Certificate of Cause of Death (CCOD) & Register the Death
When death occurs, you will need a doctor to certify the cause of death and issue the CCOD. The doctor in attendance will based on the CCOD and issue the Certificate of Death aka the Death Cert. It will be in electronic form (electronic Death Cert).
2
Retrieving the electronic Death Certificate (eDC)
The authorised family member will download the eDC from the My Legacy website (mylegacy.life.gov.sg). This eDC will be in used to facilitate the next stages of funeral arrangement.
3
Engage a Funeral Company
Upon obtaining the eDC from the My Legacy website, you will be able to engage a funeral company. Be sure you engage a reputable one with transparent pricing policy. You do not want to be shocked with a host of hidden charges when presented with the final bill.
